One day I was on my way home and as I was about to step into the elevator, I saw a young woman who appeared to be quite agitated.
I quietly observed her and thought to myself that you never really know what someone is going through behind closed doors.
On the surface she was emitting so much anger, however I felt a deep sadness within her, and I just smiled warmly as she shot a glance at me.
For a moment it reminded me of my old self, a high-strung, alpha young woman that carried the weight of the world on her shoulders. It was by observing her that I felt such deep compassion for her, as I witnessed my younger self.
I wanted to hug her in that moment, and tell her that everything is gonna be okay.
When the elevator arrived, a father and his little girl also joined us, and his daughter looked at the young woman and blurted out, “Daddy, that lady is very sad.”
You gotta love the purity and innocence of children that will speak their minds at anytime.
The father apologized for his daughter’s candidness. He put his head down sheepishly, and hugged his little girl as the woman dashed out of the elevator as fast as she could. She was more than likely embarrassed by the little girl’s comment, and her honesty.
There is such beauty in seeing yourself in another person. It’s what keeps you connected to your heart, and to others.
In that moment I was able to witness a part of my old self, that could identify with her, instead of being so quick to judge.
We are all part of a collective whole, living, breathing organism expressing itself through each and every one of us.
When you begin to witness the beauty in other people you meet, you honour the divinity in all, and embrace the oneness of our humanity.
A lot of the disharmony that is occurring around the world right now is because of this mis-perception of separation.
What people need more than ever is compassion and empathy.
Send silent blessings to strangers, for giving and receiving are one.
It will come back to you in the most unexpected and amazing of ways.
By demonstrating compassion to one another, you will be demonstrating compassion to yourself, and becoming a bright light for others to see their own reflection.
With love and compassion,
